Don’t Forget These Must-Haves When You Move

Don’t Forget These Must-Haves When You Move

Moving into a new place is basically the adult version of a treasure hunt, except you’re the one hiding the treasure and then immediately forgetting where it is. It’s a wild ride, full of hope, dreams, and lots of empty pizza boxes. If you’re about to embark on this journey, here’s your not-so-serious, but very necessary, checklist of things to have when you move in:

1. Toilet Paper: The Real MVP

You will never understand the true meaning of “necessity” until you’re desperately searching for toilet paper in a barren bathroom. Trust me, stock up before you do anything else. Bonus points for remembering where you packed it.

2. A Toolbox That Screams “I’m an Adult!”

Don’t be fooled by your “I can do it” energy—you’re going to need a hammer, some nails, and a whole lot of hope. Think of it as a survival kit. Flat-pack furniture doesn’t assemble itself, and neither do your curtain rods.

3. A First-Aid Kit for You and Your Walls

Band-Aids are a must. Sure, they’re for you, but also consider getting some spackle for those inevitable wall accidents. Moving furniture feels like an extreme sport, and the walls never win.

4. Cleaning Supplies: Because Dust Has No Chill

Your new home will likely come with one guaranteed feature: dirt. Even if it looks spotless, it’s a trap. A vacuum, disinfectant, and a mop will be your new best friends. And yes, that one rogue spider is also your new roommate.

5. Extension Cords for the Not-So-Conveniently Placed Outlets

Who designed these electrical plans? Sometimes, the nearest outlet feels like it’s in another time zone. Extension cords and surge protectors will save your sanity (and your phone battery).

6. Comfy Pajamas for Your First Night In

Forget being fancy—you’re moving, not going to a gala. You need something soft, cozy, and resilient enough to withstand a night of sleeping on a mattress that’s still on the floor. You’ve earned it.

7. That One Unopened Box of Takeout Menus

Cooking on moving day? Hilarious. Your fridge probably hasn’t even been plugged in yet, so pizza, Thai, or your favorite local spot will save the day. Consider it your “Welcome Home” feast.

8. A Coffee Maker or Tea Kettle to Jumpstart Your New Life

Moving is hard, and caffeine makes it a tiny bit easier. Unpack your coffee maker or tea kettle first (after the toilet paper, of course). Fuel yourself for the madness ahead.

9. Trash Bags, Because Adulting Is a Thing

You will be amazed at the amount of packing paper and bubble wrap you’ve suddenly inherited. Trash bags are your unsung hero. Pro tip: double up if you’re dealing with broken dreams—uh, I mean, broken glasses.

10. A Sense of Humor, Because Things Will Get Weird

Not everything will go as planned. Boxes will go missing, and you’ll accidentally unpack your spoons before you find your bed frame. Laugh it off. You’re building a home, one chaotic moment at a time.

There you have it! If you can gather all these things, plus a little patience and a lot of takeout, your move will be an adventure you’ll (mostly) look back on fondly. Happy moving day—may your boxes be light and your Wi-Fi setup be swift!
