Ariana Grande has launched an enchanting new makeup line, the R.E.M. Beauty x Wicked collection, in collaboration with the film adaptation of “Wicked.” The collection promises to captivate fans with its glistening highlighter, shimmering eye shadows, and a color-changing lip oil. Drawing inspiration directly from the musical and original L. Frank Baum books, the packaging reflects the magical essence of Wicked through intricate illustrations.
Grande’s involvement in the film extends beyond her role as Galinda. Her beauty look for the character was a collaborative effort between herself, hair and makeup designer Frances Hannon, hairstylist Gabor Kerekes, and makeup artist Nuria Mbomio. Grande sought to “completely erase familiarity” while crafting her look as Galinda, aiming to create something both unique and respectful of the iconic Glindas who preceded her.
“We wanted to pay homage to the gorgeous Glindas who have come before me while also creating our own version,” said Grande.
The collection introduces several innovative products to the R.E.M. Beauty line, including a pH-adaptive lip oil that changes colors based on the wearer. This lip oil is described as “magical” by Grande, aligning perfectly with the enchanting theme of the collection. Additionally, the range offers three lip stains inspired by the vibrant tulip fields of Munchkinland.
“Of course, we had to come up with something magical for the witches,” Grande remarked regarding the collection’s whimsical nature.
Grande’s transformation into Galinda involved bleaching her eyebrows and utilizing a specially designed brow kit labeled “Galinda brow.” Her beauty look drew inspiration from Billie Burke’s portrayal in 1939’s “The Wizard of Oz” and Kristin Chenoweth’s role as Glinda in the original Wicked production. Through this homage, Grande celebrates her predecessors while crafting her unique interpretation of the beloved character.
“My pop persona is such a characterized version on its own,” Grande commented on her distinctive approach to Galinda’s beauty look.
The R.E.M. Beauty x Wicked collection will be available for purchase on rembeauty.com starting October 1st at 12 am ET/September 30th at 9 pm PT. Fans can also find the products at Ulta Beauty stores and on ulta.com in early October. This collaboration marks a significant milestone for R.E.M. Beauty, with certain products like the pH adaptive lip oil being first-evers for the brand.
Grande meticulously documented her experiences with the beauty collection in a pink Hermès Kelly-size notebook, a testament to her dedication and passion for this project. Interestingly, pink became a prominent color in Grande’s life during her audition process for “Wicked” three years ago.
“Pink was never really a part of my life until I started collecting a lot of pink pieces during the audition process three years ago,” Grande revealed.
