“Dead Talents Society” Dominates Golden Horse Film Awards Nominations

The comedy-horror film “Dead Talents Society” has emerged as a standout contender at this year’s Golden Horse Film Awards, garnering an impressive 11 nominations. This places it at the forefront of the 169 films vying for recognition at the prestigious Chinese-language prizes. The Golden Horse Film Awards, long revered for honoring excellence in Chinese-language cinema, will announce winners during a ceremony on November 23rd at the Taipei Music Center.

Among the key categories, the nominees for best leading actor include King Jieh-wen, Chang Chen, Yau Hawk-sau, Wanlop Rungkumjad, and Zhang Zhiyong. Interestingly, these same individuals are also in contention for the best director award, highlighting their dual talent in front of and behind the camera.

“Dead Talents Society” leads the pack, but it’s not without competition. Both “Yen and Ai-Lee” and “Bel Ami” have secured eight nominations each, tying them for second place. In the race for the best narrative feature award, five films stand out: John Hsu’s “Dead Talents Society,” Ray Yeung’s “All Shall Be Well,” Lou Ye’s “An Unfinished Film,” Geng Jun’s “Bel Ami,” and “Stranger Eyes.”

The ceremony will spotlight notable achievements, including the ‘Outstanding Taiwanese Filmmaker of the Year’ honor awarded to LI Si-jian. With over 50 years of experience in set decoration, LI Si-jian’s contributions to the industry are recognized and celebrated.

In addition to the awards ceremony, nominated films will be screened during the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival from November 7-23. Audiences will also have a say through the Golden Horse Awards Audience Choice Award, taking place on November 9-10 at various venues including Hualien Railway Cinema, Vie Show Cinemas Hsinchu FE21, and Vie Show Cinemas Tainan FE21.
