Hollywood’s Latest Hit “It Ends With Us” Sparks Blockbuster Success and Sequel Buzz
The film “It Ends With Us,” a cinematic adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, has taken the box office by storm. Produced for $25 million, the film is on track to gross between $285 million and $300 million. It has already amassed $242 million worldwide in just three weeks. Despite its success, tensions among the cast, particularly between stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, have cast doubt on the prospects for a sequel.
The film’s impressive performance has secured its place as one of the top 10 highest-grossing films of the year. Industry experts predict that it will generate at least $25 million to $30 million in profits for Sony and Wayfarer Studios. David A. Gross, a renowned box office analyst, praised the film, saying:
“It’s among the highlights of the summer.” – David A. Gross
The film rights were acquired by Baldoni’s Wayfarer Studios in 2019, and he co-financed the project with TSG Entertainment. Despite the film’s dark themes, Blake Lively has faced criticism for her effervescent promotion style. Nonetheless, anticipation remains high for a potential sequel, fueled by the existence of Hoover’s follow-up novel, “It Starts With Us.”
Rumors of a feud between Lively and Baldoni have created uncertainty about a sequel. Baldoni has even hired the crisis firm Tag PR amid these speculations. A source close to the situation revealed:
“There’s probably no world where these two will work together again.” – A source familiar with the situation
While audiences eagerly await news of a sequel, industry insiders suggest that it would be hard for Wayfarer Studios not to consider adapting the second installment. David A. Gross expressed the sentiment shared by many:
“Audiences are waiting for the next chapter.” – David A. Gross
Baldoni himself has hinted at stepping back from directing any potential sequel, suggesting that others might be better suited for the role. In a candid statement, he remarked:
“I think there are better people for that. I think Blake Lively’s ready to direct.” – Justin Baldoni
The production of “It Ends With Us” faced challenges, including a pause in late June 2023 due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Notably, Ryan Reynolds, with his WGA membership and screenwriting credits on “Deadpool 2” and “Deadpool & Wolverine,” would have been restricted from contributing to the screenplay during this time.
