Matilda Djerf and her partner, Rasmus Johansson, have found their sanctuary in a fin-de-siècle apartment located in Stockholm, Sweden. They moved into this historic 1890s residence in February, embracing its charm and character. The apartment features three working fireplaces, each adorned with delicate botanicals, adding a touch of nature to the elegant interior. The design is a harmonious blend of warm minimalism and Djerf’s personal creations for her company, Djerf Avenue, reflecting her unpretentious yet sophisticated approach to living spaces.
In the bijou room, style takes precedence over square footage. This space showcases racks of clothing and shoes displayed gallery-style, highlighting Djerf’s extensive shoe collection. “I’m a bit embarrassed by how many shoes I have,” Djerf admits, yet she proudly displays them. She acknowledges the beauty of certain pairs, saying, “These are too high to wear often, but they’re just too beautiful not to display.”
The apartment is a testament to Djerf’s affinity for Swedish design and her passion for travel. The interiors feature retro green wallpaper with sunflowers, a nod to her cherished memories. “I remember their retro green wallpaper with sunflowers, and now I have my version here,” she fondly recalls. The apartment also boasts cherub-shaped soaps, sunshine-yellow Terra Studios tiles, and a golden chandelier crafted by Svenskt Tenn’s Josef Frank. A 19th-century Bankers Lamp from the Swedish boutique Sekelskifte adds a touch of historical elegance.
Djerf’s favorite room is the bedroom, a personal sanctuary within the home. Every corner reflects her playful spirit. “This is where I got to be playful,” she shares. Her approach to interior design emphasizes simplicity and elegance, creating spaces that are inviting and personal.
A consummate hostess, Djerf eagerly anticipates hosting dinner parties. Her friends eagerly await invitations, as she admits, “My friends are waiting for a dinner party invitation.” She delights in serving her signature dish, Swedish Tacopaj, and even makes traditional Morning Buns from scratch for breakfast gatherings.
