Tom Holland joins Christopher Nolan’s next feature alongside Matt Damon

Tom Holland is set to star in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, joining Matt Damon in a highly secretive project. Nolan wrote the script and will direct the feature, which is scheduled for release by Universal Pictures on July 17, 2026.

While plot details remain undisclosed, sources suggest the film’s setting is not in the present, though it’s unclear whether it takes place in the past or the future. Nolan is producing the movie with his long-time collaborator and wife, Emma Thomas, under their Syncopy production banner.

This film marks a reunion between Nolan and Universal Pictures, the studio behind his acclaimed drama Oppenheimer, which earned him his first Oscars for Best Director and Best Picture as a producer. The film grossed an impressive $976 million worldwide. Oppenheimer was Nolan’s first collaboration with Universal after ending his long-standing partnership with Warner Bros. in 2020. Unlike Oppenheimer, which Universal secured through an open auction, sources say the studio directly acquired the rights to this new project.

While Damon has previously worked with Nolan on Oppenheimer and Interstellar (2014), this will be Holland’s first time working with the celebrated director. Holland’s involvement may lead to a busy schedule next year as he balances this project alongside Spider-Man 4 and a potential appearance in Avengers: Doomsday. Due to scheduling shifts, Spider-Man 4 was delayed, and co-star Zendaya will now film Dune 3 in early 2026 instead of next year.

Holland, who recently starred in the 2023 Apple TV+ miniseries The Crowded Room, is represented by WME and Sloane Offer.
